Cheng Chiwei became involved in the LGBTQ+ movement at the age of 21 and joined the Taiwan Tongzhi (LGBTQ+) Hotline Association as a social worker at 24. By 27, life had become a little busier: he helped establish the Family Group and Education Group and organize the first Taiwan LGBT Pride. At 29, concerned about what growing older might mean for gay men, he co-founded a group for older gay men. At 37, after meeting many gay men with multiple disabilities, he decided to establish Hand Angel. At 40, marriage equality and gender equity education kept him busier than ever. At 42, on the night of the referendum, he reminded himself that, as a GAYUNCLE, he had to keep going. At 43, he stood with others on Qingdao East Road to welcome the arrival of marriage equality. Now at 50, he finds himself devoting more and more of his work to long-term care. A gay man, social worker, and cat person, he considers both Taipei and Taichung home.
